Job Summary
Under the supervision of either the Patient Accounts Manager or Credit/Collections Manager is responsible for patient billing by reviewing patient account registration information and ensuring the accuracy and completeness of data and processing billing forms in a timely manner, according to financial class requirements. Processes coordination of benefits; receives and answers billing related questions, follows through until payment, zero balance, or transfer to self-pay status is complete. Resolves credit balances to zero balance.
Essential Responsibilities

  • Reviews patient account registration information and ensures the accuracy and completeness of data in order to avoid billing errors, or delays in payment.

  • Processes billing forms, or transactions in a timely way, according to financial class requirements. Completes all related forms and forwards them to insurance companies or governmental payors.

  • Monitors status of outstanding accounts and identifies those requiring late charge postings. Identifies those accounts that are past due, and follows-up for payment to third party payors, patients, or others. As required processes refund transactions to insurance companies, governmental payors, or others for overpaid accounts.

  • Receives and answers inquiries from patients, insurance companies, physician offices, and other appropriate parties.

  • Prepares and maintains billing files, records and prepares activity reports.

  • Performs special projects as assigned.


Qualifications
Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required, business school or business college preferred


Experience

  • Six months of health care business office experience with emphasis on previous billing/collector experience preferred.

  • UB-04 Hospital claim experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.

  • Knowledge of health care insurance preferred.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
