Summary:
The position will require the employee to live in the clients home 24/7 and perform general housekeeping duties as well as possible assistance with ADLs such as toileting, medication reminders, bathing, dressing, oral hygiene and ambulation. This is position will require weekend and holiday coverage.
Essential Homemaking and PCA
Responsibilities:
Work with individuals in their home environment
Be responsible for homemaking tasks in accordance with the Plan of Care, including but not limited to: general housekeeping, meal preparation, laundry, errands and travel companion (upon approval of the office), self-administered medication reminders, and assisting with telephone calls.
Report changes in client status to the Agency
Encourage and assist with personal hygiene i.e. assist with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting and ambulating.
Skills and Abilities:
Quality companionship and socialization skills
Good home management skills, i.e. basic cleaning and cooking skills
Demonstrates and supports the philosophy and expectations of C.A.R.E (Courtesy, Attitude, Respect and Enthusiasm) while dealing with ill or handicapped clients and their families
Good physical and mental health and capable of working under pressure. Ability to use eyes, hands and fingers with skill.
Willing to uphold Day Kimball HomeMakers confidentiality requirements.
Medium work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time), and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.
May require the ability to enter buildings using varied levels of stairs and walkways.
Ability to drive an automobile year round in varying weather conditions.
Ability to accept direction and supervision in performing detailed assignments. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and assess priorities.
Qualifications for Live-In Caregivers:
This position involves living in the clients home, all applicants must be able to accommodate this requirement.
Must have flexible working schedule.
Must be a responsible person able to relate well with all people.
Background in working with elderly preferred.
Have good home management skills, i.e. cleaning, laundry, cooking.
Some knowledge of healthcare practices, invalid bathing techniques, nutrition, home sanitation and safety, physical and emotional needs of the elderly and disabled.
High School graduate or equivalency preferred.
Minimum 18 years of age required.
Valid Connecticut Drivers License, proof of current insurance coverage and reliable transportation required.
