Summary:
The /HomeMaker/Companion/PCA role is to help maintain and monitor the daily living activities of individuals in their home environment. The need for a HomeMaker/Companion /PCA arises when a person is not able to be in his/her home alone due to physical or mental disabilities and/or requires socialization, safeguarding, and help with meals or medication reminders. This may also involve performing personal care activities such as oral hygiene, bathing, dressing, toileting and ambulation in their home environment. The HomeMaker /Companion/PCA will perform duties under a plan of care developed between Day Kimball Homemakers Agency and the client.
Essential Homemaking and PCA
Responsibilities:
To work with individuals in their home environment
To be responsible for housekeeping tasks in accordance with the Plan of Care
Prepare or warm up meals, serve and clean up
Do laundry, dusting and vacuuming
Maintain the kitchen and bathroom facilities
Reminding client of their self-administered medication
Assist with telephone calls
Socialization
Playing cards, games, reading, going for a walk
Escort clients to medical appointments (All transportation must be approved by office).
Encourage and assist with personal hygiene i.e. assist with bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting and
ambulating
Run errands and marketing
Report changes in client status to the Agency
Skills and Abilities:
Quality companionship and socialization skills
Have good home management skills, i.e. basic cleaning skills
Accept clients life styles and attitudes
Demonstrate sincere concern in caring for clients who are ill or handicapped and willing to be accountable for
maintaining Day Kimball Homemakers standards on confidentiality.
Ability to communicate with and relate to clients and their families with patience and tact.
Transportation using clients car or employees car. The office and familys must approve all transportation
Demonstrates and supports the philosophy and expectations of C.A.R.E (Courtesy, Attitude, Respect and
Enthusiasm)
Good physical and mental health and capable of working under pressure. Ability to use eyes, hands and
fingers with skill.
Medium work: Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to
1/3 of the time), and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly (Constantly: activity or
condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.
May requires the ability to enter buildings using varied levels of stairs and walkways.
Ability to drive an automobile year round in varying weather conditions.
Ability to accept direction and supervision in performing detailed assignments. Ability to follow verbal and
written instructions and assess priorities.
Qualifications for PCA/ HomeMaker/Companion/:
Must be a responsible person able to relate well with all people.
Background in working with elderly preferred.
Have good home management skills, i.e. cleaning, laundry, cooking.
Some knowledge of healthcare practices, invalid bathing techniques, nutrition, home sanitation and safety,
physical and emotional needs of the elderly and disabled.
Must be available to work at least 1 day every other weekend.
High School graduate or equivalency preferred.
Minimum 18 years of age required.
Valid Drivers License and reliable vehicle with proof of current insurance coverage required.
Must be able to pass a background records check, pre-employment drug screen and Employee Health visit.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
